Freedom Elementary School Identity Statement

In partnership with our community, Freedom Elementary is a Quality Neighborhood School in D11 with a close-knit culture anchored in authentic learning experiences through exploration, collaboration, and integration of content areas.  Our students take initiative and ownership in their learning.

Strategic Focus Area

Focus Area 1: Integration of Content Area Learning

Our school consistently utilizes Kagan structures to engage students in their learning through cooperation and investigation.

Experiences throughout the learning environment are culturally responsive and inclusive of a diverse student population to meet the needs of all learners.

School-wide learning environments are safe, healthy, and reflective of our values.

Focus 2: Close-Knit Culture

Our school seeks to utilize the expertise of teachers, families, community members, business partners, and peers for academic and social/emotional learning.

Staff members build critical partnerships with educational, business, and community organizations to connect families and students to opportunities and resources.

Demonstrations of learning are valued within our school culture as a way for students to display academic and Graduate Profile skills (i.e., student-led conferences, showcase learning events, performance assessments, etc.).

Focus 3: Students take Initiative in their Learning

The educational experiences provided encourage students to inquire, explore, and create in relevant, authentic ways across all content areas.

Learners and educators systematically participate in feedback and goal-setting processes to pursue collaborative, personally meaningful outcomes.

Our school’s culture develops and nurtures inquiry, creativity, and wonder daily through focused efforts that support student-generated questions.
